I have always had an interest in growing things but have never had any success. Last year I spent over $100 on herbs, soil, pots, and genuinely tried to cultivate these little plants. I feel like I tried hard but not hard enough.
I didn't pay attention to the amount of sunlight or water or maybe it was the fact that the ashtray was next to them but they died quickly so this was not my first attempt at growing a plant. So perhaps it was the lack of knowledge and dedication on my part. When Evan suggested buying a tomato plant on Monday I jumped at the opportunity to try my hand at a new hobby. We bought a beautiful Early Girl tomato plant and as soon as I got home I logged onto the internet and learned all I could about this little plant in hopes that in return it would bestow to me yummy tomatoes. I learned I needed to get a really BIG pot. First mistake of my last plants, I wasn't giving them enough room to grow and I was overcrowding - one tomato plant per 16 inch pot. I learned about soil and water. Today during my lunch I went to Ross and bought a beautiful glazed ceramic pot for $13.00. Make sure to get a glazed one or else they will crack! I could not believe the amazing prices on pots at Ross! I know they have awesome prices but I did not expect ceramic pots to be part of their repertoire. SCORE.
After work, Evan and I went to Home Depot to pick up some soil. David, at Home Depot was amazing, so knowledgeable and helpful. He helped me pick out soil, explained watering and feeding to me, helped Evan and I pick out more veggies to grow and was all around so nice. Evan picked out some sweet peppers to try his hand at. I really hope that these plants are fruitful (please don’t die!) and we get to enjoy delish veggies from our balcony garden soon.
